Sandra Hardy Textiles

Sandra Hardy designs & makes a wide range of women’s coats, jackets, hats & scarves, including unique ‘one-off specials’ featuring many decorative details such as colour piecing, pin tucking & surface stitching.

These are all made in a quality 100% wool fabric which is not only comfortable to wear but can be dressed up or down to suit any occasion.

The business was started about 10 years ago when Sandra moved to Cornwall. Before then she had been teaching textiles for many years, as well as writing about them and exhibiting.

Sandra recalls her first memory of textiles as stitching patchwork hexagons with her Grandmother, using cereal packet cardboard for the templates. She grew up making many of her own clothes and later went on to sew for her daughters when they were young.

Several City & Guilds courses was completed in soft furnishings, upholstery & machine embroidery, which she then went on to teach. Many needlepoint projects were also designed and stitched for various craft magazines, with several craft books written, in addition to studying for a degree in Textile art.

‘Over the last 10 years I have loved building up this business, the excitement of creating a new design, tweaking it until I’m satisfied, and the bringing it to life with colour, is still with me.  Experimenting with decorative techniques creating pattern & texture adds a uniqueness to my products.

Initially I only made a medium size, but slowly realised that this wasn’t a long-term strategy! Now a range of sizes are standard, but also ‘made to measure’, and customers selecting their own colour combinations.

My aim is always to create exciting, wearable designs, which I hope will be as enjoyable to wear as they were to make.’
